the railroad building is an enchanting place for ceremonies.

for those who don't know the history of the railroad building here is a brief summary: the railroad building was once a schoolhouse and also was once a railroad station (thus the name). it is originally from toplift utah and then was moved to field in lehi and then was moved, in the middle of the night on the back of a semi, to wadley farms. last spring the railroad building got some serious tlc. she got a fireplace, dramatic arched beams, crystal chandeliers, and french doors around the entire room. it has quickly become "the place" to be married.

Maddie and Jordan chose to host a dinner party and invite just their closest friends and family to celebrate their marriage. the chosen guests were treated to an appetizing garden meal under a canopy of blossoms and parasols.

yes that is what it is all about and Ashley certainly has an eye for them. from the large framed heart shaped flowers, to the over sized lanterns hanging from walkways, to the super chic cake {made by Dessert Edge Bakery} all of the elements were woven together to form a perfect evening. my fav touch: the one-of-a-kind frame Ashley and her mother made hanging from the gazebo.

a little secreat i'll share only with you; this is my absolute favorite time of year for weddings. the temperatures are just right, you get the rich sunsets casting golden light over the festivities, you have the best color pallet to choose from, soups, rolls, and pies..... oh yes i could go on.

as a little teaser to the season i found a beautiful wedding which took here last october.

Nikee & Scott June 1st

what a fun reception. Nikee and her clan did this all on their own.

another DIY job done to perfection.

some elements of the design that i am positively dying to share with you:
1. color scheme was absolutely spot-on for Nikee who has such a fun bright personality. guests were not left wondering "who is Nikee and what is she all about".
2. the use of over-sized bright balloons at the entrance on the chalkboard and on the buggy.
3. the lounge area {dying of this one} set up on a corner of the lawn. not only a great area for pictures, but also guests were spotted there relaxing in the shade and sipping fresh squeezed lemonade. at night a lamp provided just the right ambiance to the lounge.
4. mini hats which the bridesmaids wore adding a fun unique twist.
5. lemonade stand squeezing lemons on vintage juicers.
6. the cake. i kind-a could on about the cake. let the pictures speak for themselves. love the vintage dresser.

so yeah.... i'm obsessed with this one. kudos to Nikee and her entourage for pulling off an event that might make my list of "favorite events of 2011".

I totally need to give props to Lavender and Lace Rentals who provided the chalkboard, vintage dresser for the cake, and the complete lounge area. Also a great big thanks to Jamie Blaisdell who took these amazing pictures.

oh how i ♥ a DIY wedding. it is so fun to see the creative genius come out.

this beautiful couple found most of their decor from flea markets, garage sales, and second-hand stores. they then spruced up the finds by adding just the right embellishment. kneaders helped with some of the tasty baked goods, while the family provided the rest. guests had a ball dressing up in goofy hats and props and used an old chalkboard to write messages to the new couple.

i had to share this swoon-worthy DIY wedding with everyone.

let me elaborate on why this was a reception you wanted an invitation for. no detail was spared. guests entered and immediately were treated to a mini-bar of assorted italian sodas while sipping sodas they were ushered to the gazebo where hundreds of photos of melissa and greg were hanging on mini clothespins. guests had an assortments of goodies to chose from provided by flour girls and dough boys and also a buffet table filled with sliced watermelon, breads and vinegar,and salads.

my favorite detail: instead of using standard white straws they had candy-cane grey striped ones.

the weather has {finally} turned. the trees are gardens are in full bloom and the sun is warm and bright. the day could not have been more perfect for this charming garden lunch.

Maddie and Jordan's guests were treated to an elegant sit down full course meal complete with fine china and parasols adorning the trees. They even had a unique way for the guest book; they had quilt squares on clipboards and had the guests sign the quilt square and then later they will turn it into a quilt. so creative.

{how may times do i say this?}

i ♥ when the bride and groom make the wedding/ reception their own and add creative elements that are unique to them.

Open House Reminder

For all you future brides out there and the curious people who are always wondering "what are they building now...." join us at the spring open house from 7-9 tomorrow night (May 3rd). It looks like the weather will be nice {not snowing} and we have the spring gardens in, the trees are in full bloom and the Railroad Hall is ready for her debut. We are thrilled to announce some talented vendors who will be there, Landmark II Catering is providing tasty samples, along with Rachel who will be sampling her famous dessert waffles, and Lavender and Lace Rental will have the evening sky draped with a canopy of lights along with one-of-a-kind rental items for display. We even have Michael Lloyd coming to take pictures of the event! You really don't want to miss out!

i totally admit it, i'm a blog stalker. i spend large amounts of time checking my favorite wedding blogs and they are all busting at the seams with vintage themed weddings. its all the rage and i'm lovvving it.

on green wedding shoes this rustic wedding caught my eye with the groom's men sporting skinny ties and the bridesmaids all in boots.

from ruffled this beautiful bride is an DIYer. everything is very classy but there are two things that particularly stand out to me, check out her fabric flowers for her bouquets and the groomsmen styling is enough to make any woman swoon.

the cake is amazing; a total show stopper.

this event makes me want to take a big deep relaxing breath. it feels good. i really like the cheese buffet display; a work of art with

textures and subtle color.

take a theme and run with it. this looks like fun. check out the outdoor living room and the way they displayed peanuts...

i really love everything about this event. the centerpieces have color, dimension, texture, so easy and extremely beautiful. the guest favors are to die for; potted mimi cacti something that will have your guests talkin....

wadley farms hosted its first valentines dinner last week on the lovers holiday. meg orchestrated the romantically charged night complete with a steak dinner, a live jazz band, vintage photographs, and then closed the night with dancing. it was a perfect night for sweethearts♥! Thanks again to Johnny Schumacher Catering and the Original Belgian Waffle for the delectable cuisine, to nate anderson for providing the mood-setting tunes, to emmalie our talented photographer, and meg who not only was the talent scout, but designed our vintage inspired night.

{side note: all the guests were obsessed with the dessert--- liege/ belgian dessert waffles---- thick warm cinnamon/sugar encrusted belgium waffles topped with vanilla bean ice cream and hot fudge syrup mmmmmmmhhhhhhh. for all those soon to be brides, it would be a unique and delicious wedding dessert......}

The best wedding advice I have is to make your wedding reflect you. Play your favorite songs, indulge your guests in your favorite treats, if you ♥ tulips incorporate them not only in your bouquets but also your stationary, your jewelry, your wedding colors .If your passionate about ballroom dancing treat your guests to a performance by you and your new hubby.

So....back to Monet and Jared
they have taken this idea to a new level

Monet, who is an aspiring fashion designer, designed not only her wedding gown, but all of the wedding party's attire! In the spirit of debuting her latest designs she orchestrated a runway show with her wedding party walking the runway. The wedding party all had fabric/zipper boutonnières and bouquets (created by Monet). Monet and Jared walked down the aisle to Kings and Queens of Promise by 30 Seconds From Mars and Jared and Jared made a delectable feast for the guests and then they partied like it was 1/11/2011! It was really a fun/beautiful/unique wedding which their guests will never forget.

a tea party

We were lucky enough to host Clara's Tea Party this past weekend and what a magical event for aspiring ballerina's. Miniature sandwiches were served with treats, the nutcracker story was read by Uncle Drosselmeyer next to the crackling fire, giggling little girls were able to meet Clara and get pictures with her, and then they finished the day by making a crown to take home. Many little girls went home excited for Nutcracker season!

Sometimes I dream about what I would do if I had my wedding reception (again), how I would do my hair, the flowers I would have, the dress I would wear, the way my guests breath would catch as the entered my reception..... Sigh..... my reception was very grand but it was soooo six years ago and the style now is so much better! :)

I met with an adorable couple a few days ago and as we were touring the grounds I asked "How did you hear about Wadley Farms?" to which they replied,

Jessica and JT October 14th

Sigh..... fall is so romantic and Jessica and JT's reception was no different. They were lucky enough to be our first guests to enjoy the views up into the balcony. It really takes your breath away as you enter and gaze up into grand beams and delicate spinning fans (sorry getting carried away). The guests enjoyed cozy fireplaces, delicious caramel apples, strawberries, and an assortment of pies. I love the chalkboard with the pie menu idea! I also really liked the favor of honey; I've never seen this before but absolutely love the idea! This event was truly unique to Jessica's and JT's style which made the night extra special.

Mckenzie and Alex September 23rd

It's all about the details. Millie Garrett, the wedding planner and florist, did an amazing job with this event. From the strands of pearls draped in the gazebo to the gem encrusted dragonflies on the plants, no detail was spared. Moon Light lighting design team created an elegant canopy of Chinese lanterns and Italian bistro lights that draped across the night sky. Lori Esteban laid out an array of gourmet wedding cakes and Wedding Ice completed the package with frozen treats. This was one of the most beautiful weddings I have seen. My camera and photography skills do not do it the justice that it deserves.

They had vintage hats and coats for guest to dress up in for a photo booth.

Unfortunately I took these pictures at the end of the night after clean up so the linens and centerpieces are gone, however you get the idea of the lights at night.

The evening could not have been more perfect. Culinary Crafts set up a variety of food stations which included salmon, an assortment of fruits, gelato, and cotton candy.Every Bloomin Thing did a beautiful display of white roses hanging from ribbon in vases inside the gazebo and lining the archway. Christine Miller, the wedding planner,oversaw the affair making sure the night progressed flawlessly. A beautiful event!

This August has been unseasonably cool for our Utah summers. This 10 degree difference has resulted in bigger brighter flowers, glossier greener lawns, and beautiful beaming brides (well all of our brides are beautiful :)

You can never go wrong with black and white with one accent color. This is always a classy choice.

They had a crepe station where the caterers cooked crepes during the reception and then guests chose from a variety of toppings.

Last week was marked by Pioneer Day, a day where we pay tribute to the courageous people who braved extreme conditions to be able to make it to the Utah Territory. Wadley Farms carries the family name of some of our ancestors who attempted this daunting feat and without them there would be no Wadley Farms and there would be no “us”. It is because of them that we are here, that we are able to enjoy freedom, something they were willing to sacrifice everything precious to them, even their life. We hold a duty to them to not let their sacrifice be in vain and to show them gratitude by treating their land with love and respect. I’ve often had guests comment about the “spirit” that they feel at the farm. There is a stillness that is only felt there. I believe that this is due to the fact that the property has been loved, cultivated, and prayed over for generations. There is nothing more surreal than sitting on the Railroad Building porch with a gentle breeze, birds singing, and watching the sun slowly sink behind the West Mountains. This is why we do what we do.

We have been busy working on new dressing rooms for the bride and the groom. They are almost complete, but here is an exclusive sneak peak for our favorite blog readers!

This is the new brides dressing room.

The new room has a full length custom mirror which allows the bride to see her beautifully styled hair all the way down to her perfectly manicured toes.

Their colors were bright pink and mango orange, which were so fun and springy. Their ceremony was in the morning and everybody danced down the aisle to "Forever" from Chris Brown. It RAINED all day, but they kept in good spirits. Wedding Dreamers did everything from the flowers, table decor, cake, chair sashes, ceremony chairs, and food. They were such a joy to work with and everything turned out so beautiful, despite the rain.

The real secret to our success is the people who work here at Wadley Farms. A while back I introduced you to the full time crew of guys who have imagined and created Wadley Farms. It is now the girls turn for the spot light.

FYI- an event coordinator by definition is someone who is there with our guests the moment they step onto Wadley Farms property, they are assisting the wedding party in getting everything ready for the event and then during the event they are supervising.They are there with our guests for the duration of their event and then at the end of the night they are then to hold your hand and assure you that everything will be alright.

Calleen - event coordinator. She is a Wadley decedent and been running events here for over six years. She enjoys spending time with her family and is a fantastic cook. She enjoys long walks on the beach with her husband Joe.

Stacey - event coordinator. Stacey has been with us over three years. She always has a smile on and is so easy to work with. She is married with two adorable little girls. She likes pina coladas and getting caught in the rain.

Callie - event coordinator. Callie has been with us for over two years. She has a fantastic smile and is always singing and humming songs. She recently returned from a humanitarian trip to Africa which proves she is a loving and giving person. She is not into yoga and she has half a brain.

Cynthia - event coordinator. She has been with us for over two years. She is a talented dancer and as well always has a smile on. And yes, she loves the feel of the ocean.

Jordan and Katie - a little of everything. These girls do anything and everything. They help with events, run ceremonies, do gardening, cleaning, putting up and taking down tables, they even will perform tap dance routines during events (by request only).

Anna and Shaunzie - a little of everything. These two as well do about everything. Anything that needs to be done, they can do it. They have been known to break out with some wicked break dancing moves, if the music is right...

What have we been up to?

We always have projects going on and often times guests ask, "what are you doing there" or "what is that going to be"? Here are just a few of the projects we have been working on.

Upstairs in the barn we have been remodeling and are currently in the process of painting. Here is a sneak peak of the unfinished ceiling.

In the overflow area of the parking lot we have been working on a new storage building. We are in the process of making it match the other buildings.

We just started creating our own vineyard at Wadley Farms. We recently planted over 800 grape vines!

This is not a new project, but the Japanese Cherry trees are in full bloom right now and create a stunning entrance into the farm.

Mccall and her mom, Connie, came up with some really great ideas for Mccall's reception. Not only are they really great at throwing a fantastic party but they were also so fun to work with. They had Michael Llloyd (one of my personal favorites) as their photographer and James Kissell was their DJ. It was a beautiful evening with the feel of spring and love in the air.

Wadley Farms is still a working farm. We have a peach orchard, apple orchard, cherry trees, pear trees, corn fields, pumpkins, squash, grapes, and alfalfa to name a few. As any good farmer knows, to have anything grow you need bees. A few days ago our bees arrived and we had our bee keepers, Jared and Jeff, prepare them for their new home deep in the orchards. These bees are busy with pollinating all spring and fall and then in the fall we harvest the delicious peach flavored honey.

The best part about throwing a reception(party) is that you can make it uniquely yours. You pick out your favorite colors, flowers, food, songs, it is all a chance to invite and share with the people closest to you in your life your exciting day.

It is so much fun to see all of the different events that take place here and how each bride has a style all her own. Jess hosted a fun reception complete with feather boas, a candy table, a photo booth, and personalized root beer bottles.

Jessica and Joe's reception was classy and romantic. Their wedding planner, Lory VanValkenburg, did a fantastic job decorating for their event.

They had a picture table from their parents and grandparents weddings which was a great idea. It was fun to look at the wedding gowns and how the styles have changed and come back.

They held a dinner inside the sun room which was all white.

The reception was held inside the main area of the barn. The centerpieces really were spectacular.

Caybree was a beautiful bride! She really is as beautiful on the inside as well as out. The Hooley's are great family friends of ours, so of course they were such a pleasure to work with. They also have great taste and used some of my favorite vendors.

Michael Lloyd did her pictures and, as usual, they are stunning!

Pam with Pam's Floral Design did the flowers which were so beautiful in tall dark vases.

Cakes by Dawna did the cake which matched Caybree's dress. This is a trend that I've seen a lot brides doing.

September really is my favorite month for weddings. I think this is the general consensus of our staff. In September temperatures cool off which make it more pleasant for you and your guests to be outside. Also the sun starts to set earlier so you get that "golden hour" when the sun has set but the sky is a vibrant red, orange, yellow and you get to see all of the twinkle lights around the garden. Also the gardens have had all season to grow and by September they are still full of life and color.

We've been busy this summer with not only hosting events but also working on a few of our own projects.

This building serves as storage for us, but now it is a lot more attractive and serves as a great spot for pictures.

We have been working on building a turret on the corner of the shop. It will be a great spot for photography and also greeting guests as they enter the parking lot.

This is not a new area, but I thought that these gardens at the entrance have filled in beautifully for the Fall.

The evening held perfect conditions. We had an unexpected drop in temperatures which made being outside very pleasant. Christy and Norma were such a pleasure to work with! Christy had Pam (one of our recommended vendors) do her flowers and, as usual, the flowers were amazing!!!! Pam did a gorgeous arrangement of fresh flowers over the gazebo which was breath taking!

Melissa's event was planned as a garden reception. However, the weather did not hold and last minute we ended up moving everything inside. This is what I see as the true test of character for a bride. Melissa passed with flying colors, she shrugged off the change of plans and smiled and laughed the entire night. Matt: He is a jack of all trades. He does pretty much anything. He also is what I would refer to as one of the imagineers. He is the self proclaimed "eye-candy" Recent projects include the rock archway entrance and the wood doors on the barn.

Christian: Christian does almost everything and anything. His specialties include rock work and texturing. His recent projects include the parking lot entrance.

Preston: Once again, a jack of all trades. His specialties are metal and fabrication. He is also one of the imagineers. He recently worked on the new iron trim inside the barn.

Trevor: He does most of our electrical work. He recently installed new garden lights.

The snow has come

During the month of December we are busy with a lot of Christmas parties. Tonight the company "Muddy Boys" had a party in the barn. They had a dinner followed by a dance. They really know how to have a good time!

This month we closed our doors to give some TLC to the barn. We are installing a slate floor, bigger windows, wood beams and columns, and applying a fresh coat of paint. Our next event is on November 21st, and we are ahead of schedule and excited to open our doors again. Here is a sneak peak of what is occurring right now.

We are constantly improving. This past year was no exception to the previous.

Last spring we completed an addition on the south side of the barn. This allowed more space and light into the main reception hall.

Last spring we also installed a greenhouse in the north/west corner of the barn garden.

This spring we added covered porches over the North and East entrances and also put in a stamped concrete sidewalk.

Wadley Farms began about 15 years ago, officially about 8 years ago. The first wedding reception we hosted was in our barn. A relative asked if they could have their wedding reception in our barn, "Okay, let us pull out the tractor and rearrange the hay". It has evolved from that moment to what it is today.

My family bought the family farm in 1988 and has been remodeling, constructing, and creating ever since.
